Conditional Admission to PSU

The PSU undergraduate admission office offers "conditional admission" to new international students, who are academically admissible, but who lack the required TOEFL score or English language proficiency. Students who lack the required English language proficiency are referred to English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in the IELP, until they successfully complete IELP Level 5 courses or demonstrate required English proficiency.

Students who are admitted to PSU and restricted to English language classes in the IELP are enrolled in CREDIT courses through the IELP. English language classes are LING 110 courses (through the Department of Applied Linguistics). These credits are applied to their university degree requirements as general elective classes. These classes also
become part of the PSU transcript and count toward the term and cumulative GPA.
