Here are a few English learning web sites that may
interest you. I've tried to include a variety of places that will challenge
your English learning regardless of your level of fluency. Spend
some time in the sites that interest you, and don't feel obligated to disclose
any personal information if you don't want to. I've noticed that some of
these sites advertise as "free", but then include ways for you to sign
up for on-line courses. Be careful, and read carefully the sites
information about costs.
Remember, a popular Portland area motto, "free is a very good price".
Let me know what you think!!

1. The English as a Second
Language site by Rong Chang-Li is a very comprehensive collection of
sites that you might want to visit for specific learning opportunities.
2. The Voice of America
government site will provide you with audio files of news and special features.
You can download the audio player here.
3. The Online English
Grammar by Anthony Hughes offers exercises as well as opportunities
to test yourself and get results back. Billed as free.
4. Dave
Sperling's 24 hour ESL Cafe. This site is very popular and authored
by a widely published ESL textbook writer. Check it out if it is
new to you.
5. Self-Study Quizzes are brought to you by the Internet TESL Journal. This site is great! It's free and has lots of tests you can give yourself in grammar and vocabulary.
6. National Public Radio Online. This advanced site will enable you to listen to non-commercialized public radio broadcasts of news and features. Includes audio software download.
7. ABC News Online is one
of my personal favorites because I love news stories. What is great
about this site is that you can watch video and slide show presentations
as you listen to the voice-over narrative. You will need to bring
or check out headphones if you are using a campus computer lab. Also
at this site are transcripts of news shows to read and a means to register
your opinion by email on current national and international subjects.
